The National Roads Authority (NRA) was established as an independent statutory body under the Roads Act 1993 with effect from 1 January 1994.
The NRA’s primary function is to provide a safe and efficient network of National roads in the Republic of Ireland. For this purpose, it has overall responsibility for planning and supervision of construction and maintenance works on these roads.
In its supervision of Irish National roads, the NRA is also responsible for the implementation and operation of toll points across the country, including eToll express lanes and the M50 barrier-free toll.
Established in 2007, eFlow is the operator of the barrier-free tolling system on Dublin’s M50 motorway and a provider of electronic tags for use on all toll roads in the Republic of Ireland.
eFlow is managed by Sanef ITS Operations Ireland (formerly BetEire Flow), a privately owned subsidiary of the French motorway operator Sanef. Sanef was contracted by the NRA to implement and operate the M50 barrier-free tolling system.
Sanef, founded in 1963, is the parent company of subsidiary Sanef ITS Operations Ireland, the managing body of the eFlow brand.
With headquarters in Paris (Issy-les-Moulineaux), France and operations in five other European countries, as well as Canada, Sanef is a leading tolling solutions provider on an international scale. Sanef’s total revenue for 2011 exceeded €1.5 billion.
Sanef is predominantly owned by Spanish conglomerate Abertis (ABE) whose holdings lie primarily in road infrastructure, but also in telecommunications and airport operations.
eFlow works in conjunction with various partners in Ireland to provide excellence in customer service.
From its headquarters in Cork, Abtran provides award-winning service to eFlow customers both online and via telephone. Abtran is also responsible for maintaining eFlow’s social media presence on Twitter.
As one of Europe’s largest branded payment networks, Payzone allows M50 users to pay their tolls at numerous retail outlets across the Republic of Ireland.
Pierse Fitzgibbon Solicitors is the enforcement service provider for the eFlow barrier-free toll system on the M50.
