Some people love it, some people hate it, but packing is an essential part of going on holidays. There’s always a fear of forgetting something and a danger of overpacking, as there’s a delicate balance between packing just the right amount and squeezing your entire wardrobe into the suitcase. Click&Go, a leading Irish holiday company, are here to help you become a master packer with some top tips on how to pack for any holiday
If you’re going on a sun holiday, chances are it’ll be guaranteed sunshine and warmth, but a city break not so much. Check the forecast for the next 7 days before you start to pack so you have an idea of whether some additional layers are necessary or if you should rethink putting your umbrella in the suitcase.
You know what the weather will be like so the next thing to do is get organised and make a list. While reading lists on the internet can provide endless entertainment, making one requires some thought and consideration. Put some 30mins aside to make a good list that will stop you from overpacking and only contain the essentials. Break it into headings so it’s easy to follow and you can clearly see what you’re bringing. These are our suggested headings:
Going on a sun holiday? While it might be nice to have your favourite shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, they take up weight, space and are a leak risk. Leave them at home and pick up something when you’re there. You can also leave your towel as home as they take up a lot of space and are something you can easily pick up at any resort.
Roll, roll, roll. Rolling your clothes instead of folding not only saves space, it stops your clothes for getting creased. You can make your rolling even more efficient by buying packing cubes so everything is easily reached within your suitcase.
Packing shoes bulkier than flip flops or sandals? Use them for storage! Shoes are an ideal spot to tuck away socks, jewellery, belts, etc.
If you’re planning some retail therapy while on holidays, keep this in mind when you’re packing as you’ll need space for your purchases on the way home!
At this stage, we’re all well used to the security check routine. Have your carry on liquids ready (and easily accessible) in their plastic bag before you get to the airport, have jackets and belts removed and ready for the tray and make sure there’s no money, phones or keys in your pockets.
Not sure about the liquids? Only bottles 100mls or less are allowed and must be in a 20cmx20cm clear plastic bag. (It’s always a good idea to grab a handful of extra bags before you go through security!) Unless if it’s a powder, all makeup from lipstick to cream contour kits go into the bag. If you’re travelling with a baby, their baby food is the exception to the rule.
With Click&Go, the only thing you need to worry about is getting your suitcase organised as your holiday is in the safe hands of their holiday experts. All their city holidays include flights & accommodation and all sun holidays include flights, transfers & accommodation.
