A whopping 233,000 new vehicles were sold in the first ten months of 2015, making it the best year for Irish car sales since 2008. Predictions indicate that 2016 could see these strong numbers rise even further. Even January, traditionally the strongest month for car sales in any year, saw a remarkable shift in new cars sold of 31% on the same month in 2014. 29,806 151 cars rolled out of showrooms and into driveways in the first month of 2015.
The 152 license plate launch was a key factor in continuing strong sales across Q3, which accounted for over 34% of 2015 registrations. In terms of signs to let us know that the recession is over, this is surely the greatest one yet.
A recent report by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), predicts that car sales will grow by at least 20% next year. This would mean an unbelievable 150,000 new cars on Irish roads next year. In fact, vehicle sales in general, new and used, cars and commercials, are all set to jump.
It won’t come as much of a surprise that 40.67% of these were in Dublin. The Volkswagen Golf has been the top selling model so far in 2015, with the Ford Focus and Nissan Qashqai coming in second and third respectively. Opting for diesel engines over petrol is another dominant trend with 71% of buyers choosing the former option.
