Presentation Secondary School, Thurles has been announced as the winner of the Saffron School Science Competition 2015. They beat the 9 other finalists shortlisted from a tremendous total of 97 entries received this year. It was a very close competition and we at eFlow commend all schools for the efforts they made and for the quality and variety of their entries.
This year, entrants were asked to create a 3 minute video around the question ‘How can science and technology make transport networks and systems more intelligent?’ Secondary schools students from every corner of the country put their minds to test over the past few months, exploring ground breaking innovations from around the globe as well as some of their own concepts. From ‘Maglev’, the magnetic levitation based transport system to ‘SimBox’, the safe ice melting box, plenty of creative and practical ideas were brought to the fore.
eFlow were delighted to sponsor the competition yet again this year together with ITS Ireland, and were overwhelmed by the response from innovative students around Ireland. The competition aims to promote the practical application of science in secondary schools in a bid to bridge the gap between education and career development in this area.

The successful second year girls at Presentation Secondary School Thurles investigated the potential benefits of using electric cars in their own town. Thurles is a medium sized town servicing a large rural area and many people use private transport. They demonstrated how using electric cars would make their town safer, quieter and more energy efficient. They also highlighted the technological developments of mobile apps to improve travel time and road safety.
The forward thinking pupils who claimed first place in this year’s competition have claimed an astounding prize of a 3 day class trip to The European Space Centre in Belgium. The other nine finalists will also be rewarded with up to €600 which they can use to buy an educational tool of their choice.
eFlow are thrilled to sponsor the Saffron School Science Competition and proud to facilitate a fun platform for the exploration of science. We would like to thank everyone who got involved and share our congratulations with the girls of Presentation Secondary School Thurles.
